Awards
Two selected recipients annually are awarded $2500 each.

Funding
One dollar from each National Fine Arts Festival registration is transferred to the Scholarship for the Arts fund.

Application Process
Applications are accepted between February 15 and July 1. Candidates are required to submit an application, an essay and the recommendations a pastor/leader and an educator.

Applications are processed beginning July 1. Candidates are selected and notified by July 31 and formal awards are presented at the National Fine Arts Festival’s Celebration Service.

Selection
The initial selection process is conducted within the National Fine Arts Festival office. The five most qualified applicants are chosen by an in-house committee.

The final selection process is conducted by an independent three-member committee comprised of an educator, district youth director and a minister.

Criteria
Candidates for the National Fine Arts Festival Scholarship for the Arts award are considered based on the following criteria:

  • Declared major in the arts, communication or theology (20%)
  • Cumulative Grade Point Average (10%)
  • Overall involvement in the arts or communication (20%)
  • Fine Arts Festival participation (20%)
  • Essay (20%)
  • Recommendations (10%)

Scholarship awards are given to students with exceptional potential and demonstrated ability in one or more of the following arts:

  • Acting
  • Communication (including Sermon and Sign Language)
  • Creative writing
  • Film
  • Graphic Design
  • Instrumental performance
  • Photography
  • Visual art
  • Vocal performance

Essay
The essay that must be submitted with the application should be no longer than one page (8 ½ by 11 inch white paper, double spaced, 12 point font). The topic of the essay is up to the discretion and creativity of the applicant. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • What Fine Arts has meant to me
  • How I plan to use my gifts in ministry/profession
  • Challenges I have overcome to be involved in the arts/Fine Arts Festival
  • My greatest achievement in the arts
